Racing On Dragon Boat

Dragon Boat Racing is a team paddling game where participants use a dragon boat. A dragon boat is a man-driven water vehicle; They were first made in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.

The game originated with ancient folk customs, and competitions have been held in southern China for nearly 2,000 years. In dragon boat racing competitions, dragon boats are pushed by the Chinese dragon's head and tail. In some competitions, the decorative designs are removed, but the umbilical cord remains. Dragon boat racing is practiced around East Asia and Southeast Asia, and has been part of the Asian Games.

During the race each team has a umlok at the head of the dragon boat; The heart of the team is beating. Dragon Boat teams match the pace set by PaceWolkie, and strive for the best of their time.

Dragon Boat Racing is full of energy and colors, no wonder people are attracted to it. Teams of paddlers run to the final line in long, narrow boats, happy to the tune of umsol. The 500m and 200m sprints are the most common distances, with the longest running being 2,000m, 12km, 25km and over 55km.

Aberdeen is hosting free hour sessions for newcomers to the Dragon Boat Race Games. A single 12-meter dragon boat has a crew of 20, with 18 peddlers paired on 10 benches, a umlock at the front and a steerman at the rear. This was the first time we tried this activity, and it felt difficult because we were the youngest member of the team.
